We purchased a storm shelter about a year and a half ago. Fortunately we haven't had to use it but we have it ready. The bench is also a storage area. I think I have half my house in there! Ha. There is plenty of room for snacks, water, a saw, pliers, ear plugs, a small air horn, a whistle, tarp, lock, helmets, and much more.
The people we dealt with were extremely professional. They explained everything they were doing as they installed it and could answer all our questions. I'd give them a 10 if possible.

This is the place for ALL of your Storm Shelter needs! Why not raise your home value while also providing a safe space for your family! Never doubt that a Tornado can’t happen in your life. Hopefully it never will but it’s an absolute possibility. Now that Tornado Alley is shifting East, Dixie Alley will continue to be a problem, trust me on that.

We did a lot of research about safe rooms and finally decided on Survive-a-Storm. We could not be more pleased! Customer service was great from beginning to installation! We hope we never have to use our safe room but we have peace of mind it is sitting in our garage!!!

We just move in less then a year ago to Jacksonville. When we decided to get a shelter that fit our family needs this was just the perfect one meets all FEMA requirements, and within our budget incredible fast in getting it with all this transportation problems and best off all my peace off mind.

The team was very helpful in helping decide which shelter best fit our needs and location. Communication was good between the purchase and the installation. The installation team was very accommodating when we needed to relocate the shelter downstairs. Install was quick, only a couple hours for a 4x6 unit. Although we haven't had to use the shelter yet we are confident that it'll do it's job.

I recently purchased the panelized unit for inside the house. This is one of the few options out there that can be built inside your house without a lot of demolition. It took longer than expected to get the unit, but it arrived and was complete. It was dirty and a little scratched up, but it is not meant to be pretty. It did not come with instructions to put together, but I figured it out. I later found instructions on their web page. Oops. I was able to get it together with the help of my wife, but I don’t recommend you doing it yourself. Each piece is Heavy, especially the door assembly which has to be over 300 pounds. I see now that they recommend you have it professionally installed and that is required for it to be certified. We will see if I can get the tax credit after installing it myself. Either way, I do think it is well made and will keep us safe, but I think some work could be done to make it easier to install yourself with smaller panels, better instructions, and more care in fabrication and shipping so it arrives clean enough to go in the house.

We contacted Survive-A-Storm Shelters after another shelter company dropped the ball and we are so happy we did. From first call to installation was 2 weeks.
This thing is a BEAST! We got one of the larger units available because you can't put a price on safety while living in Tornado Alley. It is, literally, bullet proof with an NIJ Level 2A ballistics rating and already tested to withstand EF5 level winds and debris with FEMA compliance.
A below ground shelter wasn't practical for us in our current home so we chose an above ground shelter. Aside from being made from welded steel plates it's also anchored into our concrete pad with 4-inch Redhead anchors (think of drywall mounts, but for concrete) so this bad boy ain't going anywhere.
We can replace our house. We can't replace our family.

Once the sale was made everything went downhill. I have tried to work with these people but they just only have time to make the next sale. These are not water proof, mine also arrived scratched up and with paint peeling. You cannot use the vents if you are placing it outside. Water pours in the escape hatch like a fountain and it is very dangerous to stand in several inches of water in a thunderstorm.
I have no idea if the GPS safety system is for real and last I saw they did not even have the right location and said they do not call the authorities if they get no response. Then nothing.
I have no warranty paperwork. I've been waiting on replacement paint for months now and it sure does rust fast.
I have been in communication with them and they seem to be ready to try and make the issues better but then nothing happens.
I'm spending more and more of my own money to try and fix this thing so it is safe and does its job. I am lucky I had trained engineers and machinists to ask for help since their only suggestion was C-channel that is made to protect car doors from dings and not to be a gasket to keep out water rushing through. They haven't sent it anyway.
So much water has poured in the footings where the bolts go are already rusting and the escape hatch is rusting shut too.
This may be a good idea for inside your home, but it is not for outside at all. And when you really need it, your home might be gone and you are outside.
These seem like a good idea, but the main work at this company is just selling more units. Everyone in any position of authority is in sales and marketing, not building or engineering. And they sell it no matter what and will tell you anything to make you think it is the right choice. But every time I try and get help they say they are busy since it is storm season and they are selling lots of units. I know it is storm season. That's why I have a shelter and I ordered it in Feb. Storm season is when I need my shelter to work.

we haven't had to use our shelter yet, thank goodness, but I have made myself familiar with it and I am extremely happy with it. I can finally have piece of mind that my family will be safe during tornado season!

I bought a shelter from their amazon page a few months back. Dollar for dollar it was the most affordable shelter on the market when you factor installation as well. Since purchase we've already used it 3 times for tornado warnings. The chances of dying by tornado are very low but it gives a piece of mind that's worth the purchase. Delivery was quick!

We ordered our storm shelter last week and had it installed today. Everyone was very helpful and super friendly. They had it installed and cleaned up in about an hour.

My experience was great, from start to finish. It all happened within 3 weeks, including financing. At this point I certainly highly recommend.

We LOVE our Survive a Storm tornado shelter...so much so that we had it relocated to our newly built home. The builder was able to frame and build around the shelter and place it in its own little room inside our house. The customer service we have always received from Survive a Storm, from the first time calling to moving of our shelter, has been amazing! Since being in a tornado as a child, storms have always terrified me. Our Survive a Storm shelter brings me peace of mind during every storm.

Very poor experience to-date. There seems to be an institutional lack of integrity. Bought unit, was told to call in 2 weeks to get a handle on firmer delivery date (was quoted 6-8 weeks). Called after 3 weeks and was told by the operations person that my unit was being produced that week and would leave their facility end of the week or early the next week. That was 5 weeks ago. Crickets. Called 12 days ago and explained nothing has come. Was told they had a problem with a "plasma gun" or part for it, but that I should get the unit in 2 weeks. I specifically asked if 2 weeks meant to me or to leave their facility - was told to me. Told that their production lead was aware now and monitoring my unit, and that someone would call me the next day. Nobody called. Called in again today and am now being told it will be produced around mid May.

We got ours last year. Peace of mind is priceless.

I LOVE my Extreme tornado shelter! We live in a mobile home and there is no place safe in case of a tornado, so I now have the shelter to go to...
From my first call to the Survive a Storm office, Taylor answered all my questions, set up Don to visit me, and to the the insulation guys, it only took a couple of weeks!

Have friends that purchased an inground garage shelter that leaks and the company will not fix it. It has been leaking since it was installed 6 months ago.

Have not had to put it to the test yet, but it will be here when we need it.

We purchased the twister pod and the setup went smoothly. We were told we would receive a call anytime our area has a tornado warning. We have had several warnings since the install and never received a call. The only time they have called was an automated message on a day that there was no storms and the sun was shining. We also referred my mother and step father to buy a shelter. They purchased one and they were told by survive a storm that they would send me a gift card as a thank you for referring them. They never sent me the gift card as promised. We have called multiple times and they never get back with us or mail the gift card. These people will seem like a dream to work with and then as soon as the shelter is installed they forget you and move on to the next sale. They have horrible customer service. Beware if you have any issues post install because most likely they will never help you out again.
